Discover Mr & Mrs Kitchen Korean Restaurant

If you’re craving sizzling barbecue, bubbling hot pots, and the kind of comforting Korean flavors that linger long after the last bite, Mr & Mrs Kitchen Korean Restaurant at 715 Centre Rd, Bentleigh East VIC 3165, Australia deserves a spot on your must-visit list. Tucked into the heart of Bentleigh East, this local gem has built a steady reputation among families, students, and Korean food enthusiasts who appreciate authentic recipes served without fuss.

I first visited on a chilly Friday evening, drawn in by the aroma of grilled bulgogi drifting toward the street. Inside, the setting felt relaxed and welcoming-simple wooden tables, stainless steel chopsticks, and the soft hum of conversation. What stood out immediately was the warmth of the staff. They didn’t just hand over a menu; they walked us through it, explaining the difference between bibimbap and dolsot bibimbap, and recommending side dishes to match our mains.

The menu itself is broad yet focused. Korean classics take center stage: kimchi jjigae simmering in stone pots, spicy tteokbokki coated in a glossy red chili sauce, and crispy Korean fried chicken that rivals some of Melbourne’s more hyped spots. According to research published by the World Institute of Kimchi, fermented foods like kimchi are rich in probiotics and beneficial bacteria that support gut health. You can taste that depth of fermentation here-tangy, complex, and unmistakably traditional. Their house-made kimchi, served as part of the banchan selection, strikes the right balance between heat and acidity.

During one visit with a group of six, we ordered the Korean BBQ set. The process is part of the fun. Thinly sliced marinated beef and pork belly are grilled right at the table, releasing a caramelized sweetness as the sugars in the marinade react to the heat. Wrapping the grilled meat in lettuce leaves with garlic, ssamjang paste, and a spoonful of rice is an experience in itself. It’s interactive dining, and it encourages sharing. The Australian Bureau of Statistics has reported growing interest in multicultural dining across Victoria, and it’s easy to see why-restaurants like this make global cuisine accessible and communal.

Their seafood pancake, or pajeon, deserves special mention. Crisp at the edges and tender inside, it’s loaded with scallions and fresh seafood. I’ve tried similar dishes in larger Korean restaurants in the CBD, but here it feels more homestyle. That authenticity matters. The flavors aren’t toned down excessively, so if you ask for spicy, expect a genuine kick. For those unsure about heat levels, the staff are upfront and happy to adjust.

Reviews from locals frequently mention generous portions and reasonable pricing. On my third visit, I noticed a family celebrating a birthday with a bubbling army stew in the center of the table. The dish arrived layered with noodles, sausage, tofu, and vegetables in a rich, spicy broth. It’s hearty and ideal for sharing, especially during Melbourne’s cooler months.

From a practical standpoint, the location on Centre Road makes it easy to access, with nearby parking and public transport options. While it may not have the flashy decor of high-end Korean barbecue chains, the focus here is clearly on food quality and consistency. That’s often a stronger indicator of long-term success. The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation has emphasized the global rise of Korean cuisine due to its balance of flavor, nutrition, and presentation. Dining here reflects that balance-vibrant colors, layered textures, and dishes that feel both indulgent and nourishing.

Of course, like any busy local restaurant, peak hours can mean a short wait. Reservations are wise for weekend dinners. Still, the turnover is efficient, and the kitchen operates with impressive coordination. Watching plates move swiftly from grill to table, you get the sense of a team that knows exactly what it’s doing.

For anyone exploring Korean food in Melbourne’s southeast suburbs, this Bentleigh East spot delivers a satisfying mix of tradition and approachability. Between the interactive barbecue, comforting stews, and thoughtfully prepared side dishes, it captures the spirit of Korean dining in a way that feels genuine rather than commercialized.

  • We came here without reservations and they were busy, but clearly because the food is so good! We were lucky to get a table but service was friendly. The jjajjang myeon is the most authentic we have had outside of Korea! We also had the chapsal tangsuyuk which was crispy, chewy, and tender all at the same time. The sauce was on point and the portions are substantial... So come hungry! We will be back... Frequently. We came back, again and again.. the prawn kampongi was amazing with some super sized prawns! Definitely worth trying!!!

  • We ordered Korean fried chicken, kimchi tofu stew, seafood noodle soup, pan-fried dumplings, and rice wine — and every single dish was a hit! The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy inside, coated in a sweet and spicy glaze that kept us reaching for more. The kimchi tofu stew was warm, tangy, and comforting — the kind of dish that makes you feel hugged from the inside. The seafood noodle soup was rich in umami, packed with fresh clams, squid, and noodles that soaked up all the flavor. The dumplings were golden and crispy, and the dipping sauce gave it an extra kick. The rice wine (makgeolli) was lightly sweet, smooth, and the perfect finish to the meal. Loved the food, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. Would definitely come back!

  • We've been fortunate enough to discover this hidden Korean gem this year, you know it's going to be good when it's only locals who dine there. The staff are so incredibly efficient, food comes out fast! Everything is of a high standard and is delicious, we're regular customers for the future.

  • Korean-chinese restaurant style run by husband and wife team. The price is very reasonable for the portion and taste. The black Bean Noodle is good with big chunks of onion which provides sweetness and crunch to the dish although I can't see too much of the pork pieces but you are getting for what you pay. The seafood Pancake is a bit too doughy to our liking but still decent. Service is very friendly and quite fast. Food - 7 Service - 9 Vibe - 7 Price - $

  • We loved our visit to Mr & Mrs Kitchen Restaurant! The food tasted truly authentic and felt like a comforting home-style Korean meal. We ordered the boneless fried chicken, bibimbap, and tteokbokki—each dish was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The fried chicken was crispy yet tender, the bibimbap had generous toppings with rich gochujang flavor, and the tteokbokki was Korean-level spicy—a rarity in the area and such a treat!

  • Authentic Korean/Chinese restaurant. If you haven't tried before, Korean/Chinese food is amazing and highly recommended. The traditional set most people will order is Jajangmyeon (black bean sauce noodle) It was excellent here. Noodles were nice and chewy and the flavour was amazing. Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) a beautiful lightly battered pork fried to perfection dipped in a yummy sweet and sour sauce it was just perfect Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle) we got this for takeaway dinner. Rich thick broth full of flavour just amazing Highly recommend this place
